ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Abstract: »This study entitled women oppression against discrimination in Bernardine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other novel refers to the biased and unequal treatment of women, often involving power to prevent women from being free or equal. The aims of this study are to analyze women oppression reflected by the characters and to describe how the characters confront the oppression in Girl, Woman, Other (2019) novel by Bernardine Evaristo. The data were analyzed through words and quotations in the novel by using the five-face of oppression theory proposed by Young (1990). This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze and describe the women's oppression of the characters in the novel with the result in the form of an essay. The result of this study indicated that women oppression is reflected in exploitation conditions such as being treated unfairly, unsafe working conditions, and limit their rights by the majority. Women oppression is also reflected in marginalization such as being treated unfairly, controlled, and monitored by the majority in society. Violence is also reflected in women oppression such as abuse, and sexual harassment as women being an object. Furthermore, the women oppression made the characters confront using social justice such as revenge, and freedom by increasing education, career, and awareness because it empowers individuals to recognize and challenge gender- based oppression which is acceptable for society.« (Source: ePrints UNPAM)
